What's wrong with this picture, and what car is this from?

Edit: There's no CD player in the car what so ever. It is from a Toyota.

Edit 2: fhrblig and davedave1111 were pretty much right on the ball. It's a 2001 Toyota Corolla "S".

Trunk mounted CD changer. Toyota Camry!!!

I'm assuming in the trunk.

Trunk-based CD changers are so late 90s.

Wrong car, as far as I know there isn't one.

I had one of those in the old Accord. It was so fancy!

Indeed, I had a 6 CD changer in my 2000 Accord. I could play like...60 songs! A huge upgrade from the Sony Discman->Tape Deck adapter I used in the old station wagon.

I did not look at the comments or the internet, but that looks like a '98-'02 Corolla (not a Chevy Prizm) to me.

I had one in my old Jetta. I love how I had to load them into this big mechanical cassette before putting it in the changer. And it was loud. Not the stereo in the car, the changer was, as it changed discs. CHUH-CHUCK CHUH-CHUCK CHUH-CHUCK over and over.

Obviously Toyota, as I recognize the font used on the radio.

Why are the vents pointed up?

I picked up a 2000 VW head unit with similar features. CD option is just there in case you have the changer.

Got a ebay iPod adapter that fools the radio into thinking the iPod is a CD changer. . instant constant charge, resumes and the radio controls select tracks. About any iPod is compatible until they came out with that new connector.

If it doesn't have one (A CD changer) in the car, I'd say all the wiring is there for one, at least on the back of the radio.

Those are nineties Toyota buttons and switches. It's not a Carina E, I can say that much. Corolla?

White hot? It has TWO separate heat hotnesses. It's heated to the heat.

I think it's blue for air-con, white for fan, red for heater.

Well, they only made that one for another couple of years outside the nineties. CD changer headunit says it's likely to be later rather than earlier, particularly with full-spec ones sold for model-runout, so I'll go with 02.

It's a 2001, close enough. :) I inherited this from a recently deceased family member, may she rest in peace. Only 23,000 miles on it one owner. It's a California car, so it's rust free. However, it was never parked in a garage so the car is horribly sunbaked. It's got severe paint cracking on the trunk and roof, and all the black trim around the windows inside and out is totally perished, but otherwise it's mint. Will be my new alt driver to use when I want to save miles on my 01 Acura.

You want to know the weirdness about this generation Corolla and Prizm? The only real difference is that the position of the climate control panel and the radio are swapped in the Prizm to make room for the larger GM radios. Pic below:

I figured I'd get one of those cassette adapters, but I'm not sure which ones, if any, are decent quality.
